For Evan*, going for Guidance Programmes meant long and boring sessions of self reflection, but after meeting his mentor Stella during a YGOS Guidance Programme, he saw the genuine care and concern that impacted him to change for the better.
Here is his story:
"In 2019, I was a rebellious kid, constantly finding myself in trouble. Trespassing and theft were just a few of the charges I got caught for. It wasn’t long before I found myself face-to-face with the police, and they handed me a conditional warning, putting me under the supervision of YGOS.
When I first heard about the mandatory guidance programme which included counselling sessions with YGOS, I was sceptical. I expected it to be dull and repetitive like the school counselling I went through in the past – however, I was surprised when I met Stella, my mentor and counsellor.
From the moment we started our sessions, Stella made an effort to connect with me. She genuinely cared about my problems and always took the time to listen. I was touched and I realised that she saw something in me that I had yet to see in myself.
Stella’s advice and care became my guiding light. Her words resonated with me, and I decided that I wanted to become a better person, not just for her, but for myself. This was a turning point in my life as I realised that I had the power to change my path and shape my own future.
I am incredibly grateful to Stella and YGOS for the role they played in my transformation. Without their support and guidance, I don’t know where I would be today. They gave me a second chance when I needed it the most, and I grabbed that opportunity with both hands.
I have turned over a new leaf, leaving behind my rebellious past. I am determined to build a brighter future for myself and make a positive difference in the world.
Thank you, Stella, and thank you YGOS, for believing in me and helping me navigate through the difficulties I faced. Your support has changed my life, and I am deeply grateful."
