When people think about corporate partnerships with charities, the first thing that often comes to mind is funding. Financial support is, without question, essential. It enables organisations to expand programmes, improve facilities and reach more people who need help.
Yet the partnerships that leave the deepest impression are often the ones that go beyond the cheque.
At Youth Guidance Outreach Services (YGOS), we have seen firsthand how much difference it makes when a partner chooses not only to give, but also to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

Since 2023, SP Group has supported YGOS through contributions totalling S$1.6 million through Community Chest. Their support has enabled us to launch new outreach initiatives, establish our Cyber Outreach efforts, refurbish our youth centres, and create more opportunities for young people across Singapore.
Just as importantly, it has been a partnership built on people.
“Our youth today are the foundation and future talent pipeline for our nation’s growth and development. We are committed to empowering them with the right support and resources to help them to thrive. SP Group is pleased to partner YGOS in these efforts, providing youths from vulnerable backgrounds with safe spaces and connecting with them in ways that resonate with their interests. Through nurturing mentorship and professional guidance, we hope to help them build confidence and find practical pathways to realise their potential. We are also glad to help YGOS in incorporating sustainability into its operations through a mobile outreach programme, powered by an electric vehicle and backed by access to SP's island-wide charging network.

Investing in the next generation
SP Group's support has strengthened several key initiatives over the past three years.
The partnership funded the launch of the Mobile Outreach Support Team (MOST), Singapore's first youth engagement outpost operating from an electric vehicle, allowing YGOS to bring support directly into neighbourhoods where young people gather. It also supported the refurbishment of our youth centres in Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio, creating more welcoming spaces where youths can build positive relationships with trusted adults.

More recently, the partnership has enabled the launch of YGOS' Cyber Outreach initiative, enabling us to engage young people in the digital spaces where they increasingly spend their time. By meeting youths online, we are able to reach those who may be socially isolated or reluctant to seek help through traditional channels, building relationships long before challenges escalate.
These initiatives form the foundation of the partnership. What brings them to life, however, are the people behind them. Throughout this partnership, volunteers from SP Heart Workers, SP Group's employee volunteer movement, have become familiar faces to many of the youths we journey with.
Through learning journeys, volunteer activities, sports and outings, they have spent time getting to know our youths. Whether exploring places of interest like Sentosa or Jewel Changi Airport, engaging in fun and experiential activities, or competing in the annual futsal tournament hosted at SP Group's office, these experiences have enabled youths to broaden their horizons and build meaningful connections with adults beyond their usual circles.

“Instead of staying at home and lazing around, I had somewhere to go. It was really fun. During our outing to Canopy Walk at Jewel Changi Airport, I was scared but the SP volunteers encouraged me and helped me to overcome my fear of heights. I'm very thankful for that and I hope to go to more future events. Griddy grids took most of my energy but it was really fun too! It was a very nice event hosted by SP Heart Workers and I thank them for making it memorable!”

Youth work is often seen through the lens of counselling, structured interventions or programmes designed to address specific challenges. While these remain an important part of what we do, some of the biggest differences are made outside of formal settings, like a chat on the bus ride, a volunteer remembering a young person's name, or a meal shared around the same table.
"Youth development is a shared responsibility. Social service agencies cannot do it alone, and neither can schools or families. It takes a community of partners who are willing to invest their resources, their expertise and, most importantly, their people. SP Group has exemplified what that kind of partnership looks like. Their support has enabled us to reach more young people, but just as importantly, their employees have helped create experiences and relationships that remind our youths they have a community standing behind them."

As Singapore continues to invest in the next generation, there is an opportunity for more organisations to think differently about how they engage with the community. Corporate partnerships need not be limited to sponsorships or one-off volunteer events. They can become long-term relationships where businesses contribute not only financial resources, but also their time, expertise and people.
We often say that it takes a village to raise a child. Today, that village includes businesses, community organisations, volunteers and everyday people who are willing to invest in the next generation. We hope more organisations will see partnership not simply as an opportunity to give back, but as an opportunity to walk alongside young people and help shape their futures.
We are proud to have found such a partner in SP Group, and we look forward to continuing this journey together as we help more young people discover their potential and realise that they never have to walk alone.
